Dunragit House was built by the Hay family and became the residence of the Hays circa 1830. Sir John Dalrymple Hay sold Dunragit Estate in 1875. Historic Scotland lists the property as being a 3 storey, 4 bay mansion house with its origins dating possibly late 17th century with later 18th century additions.

Dunragit is a small village approximately 6.5 miles east of Stranraer and the village has recently (Spring 2014) been by-passed. Dunragit House is situated in a wooded location approximately 1 mile from the village.
